Gangrene is the main antagonist and final boss of Pico's Cousin. He is the leader of the Band of Terrorists and the main perpetrator of the mall shooting. He seems to be a domestic terrorist of mysterious orgin with a unquenchable thirst for war and bloodshed, but his true intentions come to light when he finally comes face-to-face with the young pre-teen hero, Otis.

General information

Physical appearance

Gangrene is dressed in militaristic body armor and wears a grimy helmet with a blue visor; once damaged, he seems to have red eyes. He also appears to wear a jetpack around his torso.

Powers and abilities

Evaluating the heavily worn armor, Gangrene had likely experienced his share of armed military conflict, though he is mostly unarmed during his boss battle. He solely relies on a mounted rocket launcher and manuevers himself around much like Sandstorm would. It is higly probable that he was planning of dying regardless of whether we would be defeated or not, considering that he had an explosive armed to his person.

Personality

Not much is known about Gangrene, other than his apparent experiences in warfare and various acts of terrorism. He seems to relish the thrill of a fight, to the point of having a bloodthirsty obsession with being the victor. Not only that, but he does not take defeat gracefully, especially towards those lesser than him, so much that he's willing to end his own life to avoid shame.

History

Pico's Cousin

In Pico's Cousin, Gangrene catches wind of Pico and his traumatic experiences linked to "the school massacre", and believes that this is connected to his genetic background. In order to test this hypothesis, he seeks out a family member with a similar upbringing and finds Pico's younger cousin, Otis.

Gangrene then devises a plan to subject Otis to his own harrowing experience, taking place in a shopping mall, that will force him to put up a fight. His plan unfolds successfully, and Otis proves to be just as capable in a confrontation. Now determined to defeat the child, Gangrene faces Otis in a final battle. However, the terrorist faces defeat as he is at Otis' mercy. Gangrene reveals his true intentions to the boy before deciding to activate his self-destruct device, not wanting to face the humiliation of being defeated by a child.

Judging by the nature of the game's alternate ending, it is unclear as to whether Gangrene was human, or really a mechanical decoy.
