Use your tractor beam to create mayhem! - Newgrounds Description

U.F.A.: Unstoppable Flying Assholes (shortened to UFA) is a shoot 'em up arcade style game created by Tom Fulp and released on October 29, 1999. Made in Flash 4, this game is centered around the Penilians, main antagonists of the Pico franchise. Taking place 100 years after the events of Pico's School, the extraterrestrial beings attempt to take over the planet Earth after its protector, Pico, had died of old age.

Story

"In the year 2000, the Penilians tried to take over Earth. They were stopped by a small boy named Pico. Pico controlled the Ghettobots, and ruled the world. The year is now 2100. Pico is dead. The Penilians have decided to mount a second attack. But this time, they aren't going to rule the planet Earth. They are going to humiliate and destroy it."

Gameplay

The player takes control of a Penilian ship with the objective of killing or abducting all humans onscreen using a laser, a tractor beam, or combining either of these weapons with elements of the environment; "Style points" are awarded for taking out humans in creative ways.

The game consists of three main missions plus an "anal-probe bonus round" accessible by abducting at least three people in the first mission. In said bonus round, the player must rapidly click the abductee's head to raise the probe status to 100%; the first one to reach 100% wins.

Reception

Like many of Tom Fulp's early submissions, UFA was created in 1999, before Newgrounds' automated Flash Portal had existed. As such, there was no way to properly gauge the initial reception. Once it was re-released on July 28, 2004, the game would receive a positive response with over 600,000 views and an average score of 4.40/5.00. It has since earned both the Daily Feature and Weekly 2nd Place awards. However, it is currently not featured on in collections.

Trivia

  • At one point in Alien Hominid, the player pilots their spacecraft and uses the tractor beam to drop humans into a wood chipper. This is a direct reference to UFA.
  • In the My Big Joystick Arcade location of the unreleased Pico 2 demo, there is an arcade machine labeled "UFA". This might imply that UFA exists as a fictional game within the Pico universe.
  • Strangely, the Penilians don't have their genitals exposed in-game like in Pico's School; this may be why the game is rated T, despite the anal probe mini-game.
